What is Abacus ? - An abacus is a manual aid to calculating, that consists of beads that can be moved up and down on a series of sticks or strings within a usually wooden frame. The abacus itself doesn't calculate; it's simply a device for helping a human being to calculate by remembering what has been counted.
Initially Abacus was used by Mesopotamia, Egypt, Persia and then by many other countries. China developed it more. Chinese abacus is known as Suanpan, it has 2 upper beads and 5 lower beads. But in India we use the Japanese Abacus known as soroban. The use of the soroban is still taught in Japanese primary schools as part of mathematics, primarily as an aid to faster mental calculation. Using visual imagery of a soroban, one can arrive at the answer in the same time as, or even faster than, is possible with a physical instrument.
How Abacus linked to human brains -
Human brain is divided into two hemisphere’s Left brain and right brain. And both the hemisphere’s has different roles to play. But majority of the people uses more of the left brain compare to right brain. Abacus help the children to create a balance between both the hemisphere’s and children who make a match between left and right brain will rise to a phenomenal performance level.
Benefits of Abacus
One of the benefits which is visible just within 6 months is solving the mathematics calculations with speed and accuracy.
Apart from that Abacus has the other benefit for the lifetime also which are –
- Logical Thinking
- Creativity
- Memory Enhancement
- Greater Concentration
- Increase in Self Confidence
- Improved Imaginative and analytical skills
- Listening and Observation Skills
- Photogenic memory and visualization capacity.
How Development of Right Brain Through Abacus – There are procedures and training methodologies to master abacus use. When children use hands to move the beads for small and large arithmetic calculations, the quick communication between hands and brain stimulates brain cells, promoting quick, balanced and whole brain development.
Course Structure
